Deciding Whether to Start a Business

To some people, starting a business is the key to independence and personal wealth. Most people, at some point in their life have toyed with the idea. There are a few things as rewarding as owning your own business but despite the advantages, there are pressures involved.

Having good and viable ideas has never been enough; you will need to have the right skills, or the ability to develop these skills and possess a good temperament to turn your idea into an opportunity.

When starting your own business you need to consider the risks involved, as these factors will not only impact you, but also your immediate family and friends. You have to be aware of what issues and problems might arise early in the planning stage. Doing this should help you decide if you are willing and able to take these risks, as well as helping you come up with strategies that will help you minimize them.
Before you decide to start or not start a business you should ask yourself these questions;
1. Do I have the right personality to start a business?
2. What kinds of skills will I need?
3. How can I be sure that Ive got what it takes?
4. How much money will I need?

Please feel free to direct your questions to me, as I am here to share my knowledge and past experiences for your benefit.

Successful Stock market Speculation

Successful Stock market Speculation by T. E Carter is a book that I have read on and off for many years. At times it has inspired me, as it has acted as the base of some of the studies I have under taken. Well a few years ago my beg was stolen in MontrĂ©al my usual yearly jazz festival trip, my beg head some of my business stuff in it, and I know the lucky guy looked in the beg and threw the books that I had in beg away. But back to the story well I have had the need to go back to the book cause I am in the process of developing and enhancing a filter system, guess what the book is out of print, but I found a copy on good old eBay cost was 10.00 + plus shipping only to the U.S; good thing that I have family in the U.S. I would highly recommend this book as it focuses you on being disciplined as well as, focusing you on a technical system. Trading is a business and must be approached as a business P/L, Expense, revenue, capital all come into play, if you don’t treat it as a business you will not make any money

Well I am waiting for the book to be delivered so that I can go over some stuff, even though I remember most of the material in the book.

what a nice day

Well I just got back yesterday from Syracuse like always it was a good trip, left Toronto Friday and it took me the usual amount of time to get there 4.5 hrs, playing the state trooper game. The drive back was uneventful I love living in Canada, as much as I visit other parts of the U.S, Canada is a country that I hold dear to me.

I picked up an Audio CD title the Entrepreneur Starter Kit, (Your Coach in a Box) so far I like what I have heard formal review will be forth coming.

What a day yesterday was with the T.T.C Strike I had to park on a side street, the life of living in the suburbs and working downtown.

Well it is 4 days before the CFA exam and the library is filled with future charterholders, each one trying to memorize formulas and understand concepts that they feel they might never use, but believe me these concept and ideas do come in heady maybe not today but if you are going to be in the financial services industry for the rest of your adult working life or even if you decide to go to a different industry, you are able to manage your own money with a better understanding of the fundamentals.

Someone sent me this video, which I found very telling.

Thinking back to my first year

I started my journey in 1998 to write the first level of the CFA Exams; young and impressionable I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. At the same I also decide to enroll and write the CMT exams, why I did that was cause I believed in self Pain..lol studied hard passed both. I bought most of the required books for the CMT level 1 exam and even did the one week study seminar thing at Windsor University which was great. I have been visiting The Analyst Forum and I wish the site was available when I started cause these guys do help each other out. Even though some of them are out to confess the others, they are quickly found out.

The weeks before the big EXAM

Well it is about 10 day (June 3 2006) before people all over the world go and write their Chartered Financial Analyst exam, as a past exam take and current CharterHolder I feel for them. The last minute worries, at times being confident the next moment wondering why you decided to put yourself through it. A few co workers at the firm are currently going through this, what I tell them and anyone else that is enrolled is don’t give up; when you finished and are awarded the charter it will be a feeling that you will never forget. After the exam I will be meeting my co works for some well deserved the drinks and its’ on me. there is a tradition in Toronto, Ont. were most of the test takers and CharterHolder meet and drink the night away and for these friends in arms I will be covering the first 2 rounds. I FEEL YOUR PAIN.

I will detail my experience in writing the exam with the next few days
